COUCOU

The birds have been speaking to me.  For several months, they have been commanding my attention.  It’s not that I don’t usually notice them, but for whatever reason, they have been very demanding.  We are lucky to have lots of birds around here.  Geographically we are on a migratory flyway, and so we will have visitors stopping by then passing through.  This winter we had an exceptional visitation of a Riot of Robins!

Thousands and thousands of Robins!  One day I stood for 5 minutes as they continually flew over.  When they would land on the trees around the house, then drop into the yard and meadow, the cacophony was spectacular.  They were joined by all of the resident little birds…Goldfinches, Juncos, Red Finches.  Apparently, as the Robins were flying by, they noticed that our local indigenous Madrone trees were filled with perfectly ripe berries that they love.  This Riot of Robins made their way around the region for several weeks, raided all of the berries and were on their way.  It was such a cool event to witness!

What happened next was a spark of inspiration, sculpting of waxes, making of molds, filling with glass, firing, finishing and voila!

This wedge shaped, cast glass sculpture sits perfectly on the window sill, capturing the changing light throughout the day.
